Time literally flies and we are already going through the last part of the month of August! Some say that from now onwards and until the end of September, is indeed the best period in the year to take a holiday in Greece… A country with still excellent weather and freed from the peak summer crowds, thus, more able to share with us its tranquil side in full extend, awaits.

Crete and Rethymno Town keep flourishing with inspirational cultural and artistic events that are of great interest to both the native and the foreign visitors of all ages. The Office of Culture of the Municipality of Rethymno collected piece by piece each cultural proposal in order to enrich the holiday of its guests in the most enlightening way…

We continue our tribute by listing some of the best cultural events for the months of August and September 2014.

The music artist Ilias Palioudakis will take us to a magical journey through his music and wander with us in musical paths from Crete to Vardaris in northern Greece for a unique musical night on the 22nd of August at the Fortezza Castle… Because music embraces all the people of the word!

Also, do not miss the spectacular concert tribute to the two greatest Greek musicians – Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hatzidakis – on the 25th of August at the Fortezza. Let the Greek music inundate your soul with beautiful sentiments!

On the 27th of August, the famous Greek singers Marios Fragoulis and Ellie Paspala give their concert of top tunes from Greek cinematography at Erofili Theater in Fortezza Castle that will touch the heart of both native and foreign guests.

September starts off in a very melodic and promising way… On the 5th of September, we anticipate the M.O.T.He trio (music of the heart) which is a world of atmospheric jazz, ethnic, funk, Greek improvisational rhythms and sound alternation with layers and influences from modern European traditional standards, rock and folk elements. A contact between interpreter and public, inside of descriptive sound image with unique expressiveness, freedom and fantasy. The concert will take place at Erofili Theater in Fortezza Castle.

Rethymno welcomes Greece’s leading roots reggae band ‘One Drop Forward’ on their first visit on the 7th of September at the Venetian Castle. This eleven-piece family of musicians from Thessaloniki bring their music in the spirit of Love, Peace and Unity in the true Jamaican tradition so wear your dancing shoes and join us from 8 pm onwards with a 12 euro ticket!

Loving tango music? Join Erofili theater for the Concert with the group Tango Sonos from Italy and shows by 3 distinguished couples of professional Argentine Tango dancers. The concert is being held as an introduction to the Second International Tango Festival of Rethymno entitled “A los Amigos” to be held between 12-14 September by the Rethymnon Cultural Association. After the concert there will be a milonga dance party!
